Balloon Mollies - Not so hardy?

I have noticed that balloon mollies, at last the onbes I seem to gather, are not very hardy fish and are in fact prone to being picked on by their lyretail relatives, which seem to present themselves as a much stronger fish. Can some other molly owners help me figure out what I am doing wrong or if I am wrong about these fish?
