Default T5 Lighting System

Hey Hobbist, i found where to buy T5 light with price less than RM 200.

Is in East Aqua at Maluri, they selling the hold set of T5 Light System just RM 195 ++. but not branded one. the system come with two T5 bulb in a fixture, just like normal fiture sit on top of tank.

For those who think to buy T5 better go to have a look in East Aqua.

Ethan,

If you're talking about the Dymax twin T5 units, you can get the 3' set for about RM160 from Fishboy. 4' a bit more, 2' a bit less. But be warned ... our S'pore brothers have used this and have complained non-stop about them - bulbs burning out, short circuit, etc., etc., after just a few months. Now more people are doing modifications to the fitting just to handle this problem. But then the price will go up of cos. That's why if you buy high-grade T5 sets, they'll cost you anything from RM700 upwards

ajeb,

Just did a quick costing. The cost of the modified unit will be 300+ for the 2' unit, 400+ for the 3' unit, and about 500 for the 4' unit. This includes the mod. If you want to save some money (about RM50), you can DIY by just getting the ballast .

Completed the mods for each of the 3 lengths yesterday, gonna bring them to FishBoy today. VERY much brighter than the Dymax units.

Ajeb,

If you really plan on keeping SPS long-term, you should seriously consider MH. With T5s, you will still need to place the corals high up on your reef. With MH, you can place them anywhere you like. Of cos you'll start needing to have a chiller then. And don't forget your bulb replacement costs, not to mention the much higher electricity bills. This is something you'll have to live with once you get into SPS.

My suggestion, to be on the safe side, would be to keep less-light hungry SPS like montiporas if you are utilizing T5s. With the more picky acros, I think it's a gamble with T5s although some european reefers and even a few singaporean reefers have reported success with colours and growth under HO T5 lighting.

i will never walk into east Aqua ever again.

the fellas there are not really equipped with pure marine knowledge.

the boss there is not that friendly. this is my opinion and with due respect, the company is doing extremely well.

i prefer the other boss who is stationed in ikano.
