Hey, was just wandering if anyone knows what this fish is. I caught it in the river, it's about 10 cm long, very thin, and has the head of what looks like a sea horse. Very weird fish.
I thought that it could be an eel, but the funny thing is it is not at all slimy. It is hard, and has a rough texture. and it has a little tail/fin at the end. Here is a link to my photo. Since, it's too thin, I can't really get a good shot on the fish. So please excuse my photography. ![]() ![]() |

Looks to me like a freshwater pipefish. You also have the marine variety. Shy and docile, they prefer brackish water conditions and to feed with live food. Won't take pellets. As they're very sensitive about their food, won't live very long in captivity.

That should be Doryichthys spp, probably D deokhatoides. The only sure way to what spp is to look at the meristics data. But to us hobbyist, what the heck.
Some ppl had spawning of this kind of fish. We had thought that the eggs would be in a abdominal pouch, but in there's a groove underneath where the eggs got attached in rows. Very interesting. |

Yes, I know he prob wore sunglasses to protect his eyes prior to switching on! My sump has arrived and piping siliconed last night. Today, hoping to sieve and rinse out the sand. Something stinky frm the live rock, so wonder if I should bring out and scrape dead tissues.
