to argentus and sabea owners:
Do they swim at the bottom of the tank often?

My tank is empty. no gravel or sand or what so ever. just the tank and one cave . I dont know if the water current/flow is too strong or what...but it looks like its hard for them to make a turn. swimming fine but turning like "cacat". once they turn, they tend to bend till nearly touch the ground...and when they swim, they are skidding like skating(on the floor) or something. anything wrong with them? is the filter too strong? (its a 3ft tank)

they are probably mirroring. meaning they are eyeballing their reflection on glass bottom. common with all fish like discus, silver dollar...
these fellas are powerful swimmers, unless you have tsunami i doubt your powerhead has enough to faze them.

i bought my sabae at less than 2" tall, in nine months they were 7in + tall. i returned it to the nice lady at lucky star aquarium in jl pasar and replaced it with small ones.

they grew to 6in+ before power failure killed them all including my tropheus collection, 7" frontosa and other cichlids. very sad day...depressed for a week. only survivor was a royal panaque and a kuhli loach.

from my experience, monos mostly stay at the bottom to middle of the tank but more often somewhere in the middle. if in a community tank, they will tend to linger at a chosen spot (usually somewhere in the back,out of the limelight) which they will protect. so far, my monos hv been pretty non-aggressive cz i chose them specifically when buying - look for the non-aggressive ones at the lfs tank lar! it's also better if u buy them small.

but they shd never go to the top unless it's feeding time cz then sth is wrong. the other way to tell if sth is wrong is if they start to look as if they're turning black, ie they're no longer silver but hv a black shadow cast over them. this is usually a sign of stress (which u might hv noticed when u first brought them home and put them in the tank) and if it does not go away for more than a couple of hrs or so, then do start to get worried.

the "skating" thing, i noticed when i tried to catch some from the lfs tank to purchase. otherwise, i donno if they do this.

generally, pricing for monos ranges from rm7-13. got my sabae for rm7 at irene aquarium and my arg for rm8 at A1. bigger lfs like pets wonderland, etc tend to price them higher.

What IF, there happen to be a power failure/blackout. HOW??!!
I bought a battery operated pump but I dont think It can accomodate my 2 2 feet tank, 2 3ft tank and 1.5 ft tank. I have monos,silvers,discus,dinos,mollies,glass tet,and alot more. Or...do i get alot of those battery operated pumps...and like 2 per tank...?

Depends how many fish u have in there. If u have many fishes or if they are big in size, then they will tend to use up more oxygen. Well mine works ok. Just get those AC DC rechargeable one will sufficient.

My mom shut down the power supply accidentally quite some time ago. No cassualty though the fish were like out of breath. 6-7hrs without aeration.
The bigger the tank, the longer the time it takes to run out of oxygen...2ft...i have no idea...havent tried that...hehe

even one battery operated one per tank is fine. just standby more batteries.
if it's long power failure you can remove the water till there's only an inch or two.[depending on how big your fish is] the fish flapping will oxygenate the water. when power is restored you can put back the water in. remember to clean out your filters. the filter bacteria will be dead in one or two hours and foul the water when you restart the filter.
