Never mind that they're so "cute".... I hope u know they're brackish water fish and as they get larger, they require marine conditions to thrive. If you're prepared to set up a tank for these brackish fish, who by the way get up to about 20cm tall(!!) (BIG FISH!!.... anything less than 4" tank is unsuitable), then M.argenteus can be easily gotten and cheap. Most LFS can't keep them propperly (they keep dying in their tanks because of incorrect water), hence why few stock them.
I can get u M.argenteus any time.... question is are u prepared to propperly house the fish? |

yes, i've read about them in the net...and am "kind of" prepared for it. But at the moment I only have a 3ft tank with only one big mono sabae in it. I read that it can go up to a handfull big of ur palm...(even saw the picture)
question: 1)can mono argentus and mono sabae live together in one tank(i know that they are the same kind but sometimes they might fight right?) 2)Can i just use normal salt(the kitchen salt that sez its frm the sea salt or something) 3) If I have a 3ft tank, how much salt must i use in the tank for these beauties? 4)Must i prepare the tank as if I were preparing for marine fishes? (gravels, planted plants) or just salt would work fine...? 5)IF it required everything like marine fishes, could i get some marine fishes too (the one like nemo Direct question: 1)IF you can get me some mono argentus, how much would they cost?I came across only one in sri rampai KL and one(the only one) cost RM20 and its as large as half of my palm. Thanks kevkoi in advance.

hi marea,
1]yes they can and they are aggressive but they school very well. max 6 in 3ft tank. eats anything...pellets, shrimp... 2]non iodized salt is fine, marine salt is better. 3]good question...brackish water means it's anywhere between river water and sea water. sea water has 35g /liter of salinity. somewhere in between should be fine. so figure out how much water you got in your tank in liters. you'd have to do this in step every hour up the salinity 100g per hour or so till you reach around 10-15g/liter because dumping all the salt in at once will shock the fish. for new fish, drip slowly your aq water into the bags of new fish before netting them to transfer into your tank. 4]no you don't have to. they prefer aragonite sand or gravel. http://64.73.41.105/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=967 IME crushed coral is fine too. this raises the ph which they like. 5]nemos live in seawater, so you need to prepare for a marine setup if you want to put nemos in. seawater doesn't change much because of the huge body of water[buffer] hence 'nemos' do not tolerate changes as well as freshwater fish. so don't put nemos into brackish water, that will be dire... er...your sabae's will have nemos for lunch even if it kills them... lastly, you probably need to take a peek at the marine section for more answers...especially filtration, stocking levels before you take another step...

hi there. just to share my 2 cents worth. taking care of monos is fairly easy if you add the right amount of aquarium salt to yr tank. i've had a mono sabae for abt 4 months now and he has increased tremendously in size (yes he does look like an ikan bawal). when i got him he was about 3.5 cm and grew to a large 9cm. he did not disturb any of the other fish in my tank (gouramis, loaches, angel fish, mollies) and ate flake food and pellets quite happily, although he loved frozen bloodworms.
i recently added a 3cm argenteus to my tank and they get along fine. i got the argenteus from AI this recent weekend, fyi. |

Oh yar...forgot to mention that i saw a big bunch of them M.Argenteus in Xian Leng Shah Alam.
Its just beside the water park (sorry dunno the name) in the shah alam lake there. price ranging from RM12.-14 but if u buy a few, u can always bargain for a better price though. Had a few of them last time...very long time ago...but traded them in as they got too aggresive and beat the poop out of my cichlids |

Good stuffs are hard to find.
AI = fish import/exporter aka farm Xian Leng = something like the above mentioned too... Pros : Lotsa stuff for first time pet owners or not so demanding owners. Occasionally some rare gems do turn up with the wrong name...nice Cons :Price about the same as LFS Quite far to go...but worth the effort if u do find something u are after. |
