Anyone out there keep wild Betta (other than B splendens)? I have a B. pugnax, about 4 cm long. Probably a juvenile. I really like to have more, may be a pair. I went back to the stream where I caught that fish, but the rain caused the water to be murky. No luck then. There are other spp. of Betta in Malaysia, some are really nice (pic. for the Net). Are there any for sale? ...how about Licorice gourami? I,ve got a few pairs of Parosphromenus spp. (probably P filamentosus) and really like to add some other spp.

Here's a site with Pictures and description of the various wild bettas. Many of which come from Malaysia but seldom seen in Malaysian fish shops. There is a following of Betta Imbellis among the betta splendens ppl though.... I've got a Copper Imbellis female. Don't have a male. Here in Australia, the wild bettas are getting a bit of an exposure as one of the big wholesalers have started importing 'em. kev |

I'm rather suprised you can't find any along KT river/secondary jungle streams. Know of any locals in Pekan? There are still plenty of streams there which i'm sure have wild bettas. I've even caught some beautiful Harlequins. No point looking around for them during the Monsoon. Even hunters can tell you where there are jungle streams located. Maybe Kuala Lipis, Raub locals will yield some info.
