Damn hard to keep wan... heard many horror stories... Keep a lookout now and then they do pop out occassionally... but are pretty pricey.

Depends on the batch.. Avoid buying the first week after they arrive. If they survive 2 weeks in the local water, find out what pH it is running at and replicate that. I've got about 10pc of S.vallanti..... eating like pigs and not one problem with them (so far).

How come my vaillanti don't have the reds and striking blues as the one in the picture? Mine mainly brown and white, with a very fade hint that it has some blues and reds.. That one breeding colour is it?

It's one of the nicest looking fish when kept propperly. Unfortunately this fish also has a very bad reputation of not acclimatising well to life in captivity and usually perish in the first few weeks.

That said, my S.vallanti's are starting to look smashing too now in their full breeding dress.

I'm going to try breeding vaillantis once i'm done with my yamato spawning project... my spare tank occupied by one very pregnant yamato, been waiting for weeks for her to release her eggs!

Thumbs up Thanks

By the way. Thanks for the pair kev .

I've yet to witness their reputation for being fragile fish and i've yet to have a fish from you that's died on me. Maybe one or two CRS, but they're not fish.

The vaillantis are in the community tank until I can allocate a tank for them. They seem to be doing fine in a tank with german blue rams, whiptails, and yamato shrimp if not a bit out of place haha.
