Obviously the algae is caused by the presence of high level of nitrate on your system. The end product of most filter system is nitrate.
Fish Waste >> Ammonia >> Nitrite >> Nitrate To get rid of Nitrate, you can either change water regularly or install a Trickle Filter to cut down the nitrate. Cheers |

This is from my experience. I had this problem and changing water did not really kill all the algae, the water turned greenish again in just 3 days.
Then I bought an algae solution, used it once. The water cleared up, but the fish/turtles won't eat! Then I changed all the water....90%++ (I got really fed up). Put a towel behind the aquarium to block direct sunlight. Now everything is fine. Water is clear, fish/turtles eating. Hope this helps. |

For aquarium, what we did is to allocate one corner as trickle filter and with the aquarium of 2 feet or 2.5 feet, we are still be able to get good results. In addition, we also put on some over trickle filter that is all in all two feet tall and by letting the water drip down slowly, the effect is till very good. Something worth considering.
