Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum. I'm searching for this turtle in KL. anyone knows where can I buy it.
If anyone have this as a pet, can it be mixed with Aqua plants?

I wouldn't recommend keeping the fly river turtle with plants because :-

1. They will uproot your planted tank

2. They have higher pH requirements (8.0 - 8.4)

Question pig-nose turtles

I have a couple of these. They are real cute and a pleasing sight when they are actively swimming around.

Recently I ran out of pellets, so I got some new pellets to feed them. But my turtles are very picky when it comes to food. Now they are not eating as much as they used to.

Does anyone know what is the prefered diet for these turtles?

Thanks.

I have one fly river turtle that I got 4 months ago for RM60.00. It's about 3" now (shell length). I feed him with algae wafers (hikari brand) and he (or she) loves it, and it looks like these turtles prefer sinking food rather than the ones that float. But mine has also gobbled up some of my barbs and algae eaters!!

I guess I should try out the wafers, quite expensive though. Floating pellets is also difficult for the turtles to eat, because they have to keep paddling to stay afloat. Furthermore, the turtles just lack accuracy/skills required to efficiently gulp the floating pellets.

On the contrary, one good thing out of this is that I know when they are hungry. My turtles will paddle up nearest to me when they are hungry.

Also, I have to separate my 2 turtles with dividers now that they have grown larger and more aggressive. The bigger one will attack the smaller one

Nono, dont ever put them with plants. They're very nippy fellows, can even nipped the wires of the powerhead if you put them submerged. I've kept pignose from 3-4" to those over 1 ft. The big ones will be very aggressive and you would be able to mix them around. For food, they're not choosy. I like to feed them mazuri floating pellets, its being used by the zoo here in Singapore.

My small one's about 4", big one's about 5". The small one seems to have some problems eating floating stuffs, it's light-butt floats up all the time when it tries to eat from the surface, that makes it very difficult. Now I am feeding it raw fish I bought from the market. That's its favorite food now.

The bigger one, on the other hand, was traumatised when he got choked once while eating raw fish. Now, his favorite food is dried anchovies.

Default feeding fly river turtles

Yes, feeding these turtles can be a real problem when they are small. I have 3, one 4" (shell) and another 2 (2.5") ones. They are very lazy to swim to the top for food. I had to feed them pellets that sank to the bottom. Now I am seriously considering giving them worms or chopped cockles, in order to provide a good source of protein.
